Sabahadin Hodžić Biography

 

Sabahadin Hodžić was Academic Painter born in Istanbul, Turkey on September 3rd 1909. He was educated at the School of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia between 1927-1931 under tutilege of Milan Milutinović and Ljuba Ivanović. He continued to study in Paris, France during 1938-1939 under guidance of Andre Lott. Sabahadin Hodžić was one of founders of satiric newspaper Jez in 1935. He worked in fields of caricature and journalism as well. His pre-WWII work is impressionistic while post-war work is in expressionistic tradition. He have had many collective and individual exhibitions in Belgrade, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Skoplje and Cairo. Winner of many awards including Politika Award for Painting in 1936 and for Caricature in 1979. After his death  in Belgrade on Febryary 19th 1982 there was retrospective exhibition of his work in 2010.

Slikarstvo učio na Umetničkoj školi u Beogradu 1927-31 u klasi prof.Milana Milutinovića i Ljube Ivanovića, a specijalizaciju u Parizu 1938/39 u ateljeu čuvenog Andre Lott-a. Jedan od osnivača humorističkog lista JEŽ (1935). Pored slikarstva bavio se karikaturom i novinarstvom. Njegove slike pre II svetskog rata karakteriše impresionistički manir, a posle rata prelazi na ekspresiju čistih boja i odredjene dramatike. Jedan od prvih dobitnika „POLITIKINE“ nagrade» za slikarstvo (1936) i karikaturu 1979. Samostalno izlagao u Beogradu, Zagrebu, Sarajevu, Skoplju i Kairu. Retrospektivna izložba i promocija monografije bila u Beogradu 2010.
