Biography of Nikola Graovac

 

Nikola Graovac is one of greatest expressionists in Serbian Art of 20th Century. He was born in 1907 at the village near Vrebac Gospic, Lika, Yugoslavia. At 15 years of age he came to Belgrade where he have studied under tutilidge of Professor Jovan Bijelic. He have had his first exibition in 1933 and his first individual exibition in 1935 in the Pavilion Cvijeta Zuzoric, Belgrade. He was very productive painter and have produced over 10000 works during his lifetime. Toward end of his life he moved to Oplenac, Sumadija, Serbia and concentrated on painting local landscapes. He left significant portion of his work to the Serbian King Peter collection in Oplenac, Serbia.
He died in 2000.

Nikola Graovac jedan je od najvećih majstora kolorističkog ekspresionizma u srpskom slikarstvu 20. veka. Rođen je 1907.
godine u Lici, u selu Vrebac kod Gospića. Sa 15 godina došao je u Beograd, gde je učio slikarstvo kod Jovana Bijelića.

Prvi put je izlagao 1933. godine, a prvu samostalnu izložbu imao je 1935. godine u Umetničkom paviljonu Cvijeta Zuzorić.
Godine 1975. nastanio se u Šumadiji, u blizini Oplenca, gde je slikao tamošnje pejzaže i i predele iz rodnog kraja.

Bio je izuzetno plodan umetnik, čiji opus broji oko 10 000 slika. Zadužbini kralja Petra na Oplencu ostavio je legat koji između
ostalog sadrži 35 njegovih slika.
